There was a huge difference in the effectiveness of the students independently of their capabilities. Instead according to their MINDSET. Because the fixed mindset students weren’t seeing the test only as a measurement of their intelligence at that time. As well, for them it was a measure of their intelligence in the future… Because they had identified intelligence as a pure talent. And you know where all this lead them? To not try things in the fear of failure and as a result a proof of their inabilities. Whereas a person with a growth mindset gains from every activity independently of each outcome. Knowing that the chase of success goes hand in hand with plenty of failures.
Today I want to share with you one truth about me. I never outright believe how people describe themselves. Not because I have any negative predisposition about their trustworthiness. On the contrary, I try always to be positive when I am meeting a new person. I want to believe that they will be proved to be a good character and I behave accordingly. The reasons are different and I will thoroughly explain below. At the same time, I don’t think that way because of egotistical reasons. Because the truth is that many times I don’t even trust my own beliefs about my emotions, my actions and the reasons behind so I have to question them. And this leaves open the possibility that I won’t come to a perfectly rational conclusion.
This being is not only observing and punishing. That way would be nasty. Instead, it has pure goodness inside its “heart”. For example, if you ask it with very good manners, you have chances to be helped even though at the same time it is observing an infinite number of other cases. As well it is a fair being because the previous works analogously. The more you give when you ask, the better chances you have to be helped.
Let’s say that you have decided to start going walking outside your house in order to exercise but for some reasons you aren’t starting it. What if I tell you to go and walk the least minutes possible. Let’s say for one quarter. I guess there won’t be any reasons that you can’t even do that, right? It’s extremely simple, you won’t get tired and you won’t waste any time. I am not sure that you are even going to sweat. But this very simple thing you should be doing it every day consistently. I guess this isn’t difficult, too. How much overall commitment does this activity require? Almost nothing. Imagine you want to write a book but for some reasons (which are actually rationalizations) you don’t apply your wonderful ideas. Would you be able to write 1 page per day? Just 1 but you won’t leave any day pass without you having written this page. You may think that the above two examples of light lifestyle changes are insignificant?
The last few years, neuroscientists, after studying how a brain “behaves” according to the environmental stimuli, looked further and focused on the interaction between two brains. When two bodies and two people are interacting. And guess what, they found neural pathways that up to that time didn’t know they exist. The new fundamental discipline was that our brains are designed to connect with the social brain of the other person. It’s the only part of the human anatomy that is designed to relate according to the internal state of another human.
In my home country (Greece) and maybe in other countries, too, we say “Well begun is half done” or “The Beginning is the half of everything.” The first quote actually comes from Aristotle. Well one might consider that this is a very nice phrase but unreasonable, the problem is how many hours I am using to achieve an outcome independently of the row of the activities in that period of time. Truth is that this used to be my own belief, too, until I started reading about productivity tips and understood that this mistaken belief was playing a significant role in me achieving the goals of the day. For example, I used to begin my day by reading the emails and the notifications in the social platforms.
When we talk about practice we are talking about a usual repetition of certain processes according to a plan we set. For example, if I want to be a marathon runner then I have to follow a program for my training, for my eating etc. These specific activities have to be followed for a certain period of time.
Then, whenever you have been in these circumstances I am sure you should have noticed that after some time you start following your program automatically. You don’t even need to think what you have to do and it has become a habit. Maybe you have increased your boundaries and now things you used to think as unachievable, now look accessible. If you just keep following these activities then you are getting closer to your goal.
